Welcome to Tegtmeier Polled Herefords located three miles north, three miles west and half mile north of Burchard, NE, or three and a half miles south of Lewiston, NE. We welcome you to view our headquarters, herd sires, cow herd and operation.
History
Our herd was started more than 50 years ago by our father, Clarence Tegtmeier, and his wife, Doris. Clarence set up a family corporation with sons Roger, Ron and Russ, which has been managed as Clarence Tegtmeier and Sons Inc. Since Clarence’s death in 1983 the farm has been managed by the three sons.
The early bloodlines of the herd were Lamplighter, Beau Rollo and Beau Perfect. Following those bloodlines were Banner, Victor, 15G, Stick, Midwest and Keynote bloodlines. Early to recent herd sires that have influenced the herd include SLF Beau Rollo 14th, JCL Silver Mission 6, CT Rollo Hazford, J Beau Perfect, CT Perfect Hazford, EO Anx Roundup, RB Jogger Jr 3N, JR P183 Groom U135, WTK 119A Fortune 73C, GHC High Tech 30R and Dunwalke DP Alpha 324C. Calving Program
We have a spring- and fall-calving program. There are about 150 cows that calve in the spring and 50 cows that calve in the fall. We try to breed for a uniform calf crop each year so we usually like to breed a sire group of daughters to one herd sire for two or three years to get a number of half and three-quarter sisters in the herd. We are getting good herd consistency by doing this.

We have a production sale each year on the second Saturday in March. 2008 will mark our 48th consecutive year of having an annual sale.
In previous years we’ve held two sales. We usually sell about 35-40 bulls and 35-40 bred and open females in this sale. We also sell by private treaty.
Through the years, we've sold cattle to producers in 27 states, New Zealand, Argentina and Canada.
Genetics
Genetically, we are striving to produce total performance cattle. We are constantly striving for that delicate balance of calving ease, above average growth, top maternal traits and improved carcass traits. We have been performance testing for the last 20 years and collecting carcass ultrasound data the last five years.
We don’t want and don’t have time for problem cattle. Cattle are culled for disposition, udder quality, large birth weights, soundness and fleshing ability. They also have to look good phenotypically.
Our farming and cattle are our only source of income so everything has to work efficiently and problem-free cattle are a must.
